London NFL Team
With a London based NFL franchise in the offing and a potential £100m income for that franchise is it worth the David's bidding for it and taking the team from wembley to the OS?

The London Hammers with a claret and blue kit would be pretty cool and boost our brand around the world.

Whatcha reckon?

Won't be claret and blue will it?

As I understand it, it will be a current NFL team?

Re: London NFL Team
They are probably looking to get out rather than take on something new.
Especially something they know nothing about

I'd be more in favour of the FA selling Wembley to the Yanks who want a team in London and using the money for grass roots football.
England and Cup finals could happily move around the country.

People see a lot money in it and so it will always be story. The logistics of it is a nightmare in terms of TV times and player travel etc. etc. I will believe it when I see it.

Can you imagine if West Ham were in a (NFL-style) division with a team a continent away and therefore 38% of your away games were there? Just to mention one consideration.

Going by how the NFL Europe fared, they'd be better off putting a team in Germany.

Yes.

This is an excellent idea.

Rams or Jaguars will be the team moved.

They only play once a week would be very easy.

Home games would be lumped together in groups of 3 as would away so they'd be guaranteed to be in the states or UK for 15-16 days at a time. Would have some sort of training base in the US for offseason workouts and such. Players wouldn't care if their housing when in the UK was picked up by the team.

Rams will go back to LA before they come to London.

Re: London NFL Team
It will be an expansion team, not an established team. A 53 man roster, practise squad and coaches etc are not going to be expected to just move to London for half the year.

I don't see personally how it can work with the time difference. Playing 8 games on the road would be a logistical nightmare for a UK based Franchise.

And i don't care if we have a UK team, I have followed the Raiders since 1986 i am not going to change to another team now even considering just how shit the Raiders are.

Jags all day long. They only get about 10,000 fans and so love playing in London every year.

I was asking from a fan's perspective.

(Seriously consider putting a Premier League team in America and see how that goes over.)

I am not sure people over there are taking it seriously at all (certainly not as much as the British press is); if they start to and the NFL starts to hear discontent from its real source of revenue, I think it will kill this noise real quick.

Again, I will believe it when I see it and will be happy to say I was wrong when the team moves.

Each are getting a team. Since it wont be the Bills it looks like Jags and Rams.

Players won't object too much.

It really only works out to 3 trips to London inseason for home games each about 20 days (only 8 of them) and 1-2 trips preseason and training camp. Most players don't live fulltime in the city they play

It will be the worst for the unlucky teams in the London team's division who will have their schedule fucked up having to play them home and away every year. A trip to Europe every year and a couple Thursday nighters will wonk out a teams schedule big time.

They averaged 59,940 per game last year, that is just low by NFL standards.

Re: London NFL Team
A London based team could also wreak havoc with the play-off schedule should they ever make it.

It is quite straight-forward planning out a season and ensuring those travelling to London have a bye-week but not so much if you find out in short notice that you have a Wild Card game there.

The critical part for any franchise would be to work out if they have a tangible support base.

The Wembley games are popular due to the novelty of the them, and the lack of games here. To sustain high crowds week in week out is more troublesome especially if most fans won't ditch their already adopted teams.

You need to show 1billion in CASH in the bank to be able to buy a franchise.......not quite sure they're in that league!!!!

Re: London NFL Team
It wouldn't be good.

They would be everyone's second team (i.e. no real NFL fan will properly support them)

Attendences wouldn't be good because people aren't going to stop watching their own team on sunday evening to watch the london team at Wembley week in week out

They'll constantly be the shittest team in the league. Travel, facilities and the fact that no-one will want to sign with the team, play for them or probably even coach them will see to that.

I fucking love American football, but this is a really bad idea. I think as it is now is good enough, and it's working. 3 games per year at Wembley.

Guinness. They're talking about two of next year's games being in consecutive weeks which I guess is the next stage in working out whether there could be a sustainable fan base here. But I agree if it was a poor team in a poor division I doubt 80,000+ would turn up for all eight games.
